We are a few national team players, a fashion magazine editor, a nightclub owner,a film producer, a FA youth development coach, a social media wiz, a handful of scientists and a football club. We are a variety of football lovers who coach football at pretty much all levels, who want to give girls and women a chance to play a faster and safer game.
How it all got started:
We hate being blamed for playing a slow game, and even more hate the amount of injuries that silently are being accepted in women’s football.
So out of desperation, we decided never to force our players at B93 to use the size 5 footballs (designed for men) in practice and games even though we where playing at high level. We knew our approach had to be somewhat dramatic in order to have an impact.
We got together a group of respected scientists and players at all levels and started working on a brand new ball especially designed and made for female players.
We stared in late 2007-2008 caltulating for the perfect ball, and have spent the last 3 years testing the results of the ball being used in training and games. We’ve tested on hundreds of players in science labs, to figure out what kind of influence a smaller and lighter ball would have on the speed of the game and the high amount of injuries in women’s football.
4 years ago we were debating closing our girls and women’s teams because we knew we would loose 1/3 of them to heavy injuries. When DBU gave us permission to play with Sensational 1, they gave our own club the needed tool to build a strong women’s club. Today we have 700 girls playing at all ages with Sensational 1. It has been amazing to watch.
We know it was, and still is, a David vs. Goliath story. Today, we have the permission to play with the ball all over Denmark. It is also used in U-17 tournaments in Hessen, Germany.
But there is still a long, long way to go…
We have a solid and close relationship with a ball factory in India, who has been producing footballs for 20+ years, for both Umbro and the English FA. Together with them, we have created new tools to be able to create the new size for Sensational 1. You can see the results here on our site.

The national team players Cathrine Paaske and Julie Rydahl on Sensational 1:
“I am convinced that this can make women’s football more attractive to look at, in the sense that women could make faster passes and longer kicks/passes using less power. I have personally tested the ball. I kicked significantly longer with sensational 1 than with an ordinary ball. I have also tested the ball in small sided games and was positively surprised that it was fast in a controlled way.” – Cathrine Paaske
“I’ve suffered quite a few injuries in my carrier and believe that a smaller and lighter ball may help to prevent injuries in the future for female players.” – Julie Rydahl
